Girls’ Football Success

1st May 2026

Our Girls’ School Football Team had a very busy and successful week, taking part in two events and showing great teamwork, resilience and determination throughout.

On Thursday, the girls played in a friendly round-robin series of matches as preparation for the next day. They won one match, drew one and lost one, gaining valuable experience ahead of the tournament.

On Friday, the team attended the annual Coaching for Christ Girls’ Tournament, where they produced some outstanding performances:

Gracehill – won 6–0
Ballykeel – won 2–0
Kells – won 3–0
Gracehill – won 1–0
Ballykeel – drew 0–0

In the quarterfinal, the girls drew 0–0 with The Diamond and showed great composure to win on penalties.

They then drew 0–0 with Kells in the semifinal, narrowly missing out on the final after a penalty shootout.

To cap off an excellent tournament, one of the Coaching for Christ coaches commented that our girls did fantastic and were the best footballing team at the tournament - incredibly high praise and a real credit to their skill, teamwork and attitude. It is hard to believe that only a few years ago we weren’t even entering a team into this annual tournament.

We are incredibly proud of the girls and how brilliantly they represented our school.

A huge thank you goes to Shelly and Sarah-Jane, who gave up their own time to coach the P4-7 girls this season. Their dedication, encouragement and support made a real difference and is appreciated by all!
