P4 World War II Evacuation Day

21st Apr 2026
P4 have been learning all about World War II and on Tuesday they stepped back in time by dressing up as evacuees and taking part in a range of activities to help them understand what life may have been like for children their age who had to leave the city for the countryside.

The children travelled on a pretend train before being allocated to a host family. Host family life included helping on the farm by harvesting vegetables, as well as enjoying a well-earned break to play traditional outdoor games such as chalk drawings, marbles and skipping ropes.

They also created their own gas mask covers and toy Spitfire planes, before ending the day with singing and a street party to celebrate the end of the war.

A fantastic day was had by all! A huge thank you to families at home for the amazing effort with costumes - the children really have looked the part and their costumes added so much to this special day.
